The Pedagogical University of Cracow educate primary and secondary school teachers, based on faculty division. An essential task of the University today is to serve Polish education by preparing future teachers, providing professional training for in-service teachers and conducting academic research. Currently, there are over 17.000 students in both undergraduate and graduate studies, taking variable courses: full-time, part-time, extra-mural, post-diploma, doctoral and evening classes. The University employs about 750 academic teachers, among them 160 professors and associate professors. Nowadays in the University it is possible to undertake studies in the field of 13 majors and 24 minors. Students might choose between 3-year professional and 5-year master degree studies. At the end of a given period, they have to take diploma examination, which confers the title of Bachelor of Arts/Science, Master of Arts/Science, respectively.
The Pedagogical university of Cracow is the largest pedagogical university in Poland.
Prof. dr hab. Jacek Migdałek is Professor of Physics, Head, Chair of Computer Science and Computer Methods. He is also the Member (on behalf of Polish Ministry of National Education and Sports) of the Working Group "Mathematics, Science and Technology" at the Directoriate-General for Education and Culture of European Commission in Brussels (Group's activity is devoted to means and ways to increase the interest and enrolment of students in Mathematics, Science and Technology in the EU member states).
Dr Barbara Kędzierska is Rector's Plenipotentiary responsible for IT in Didactic Process, Rector's Representative for Co-operation with Region Malopolska Municipal Administration in teachers education and development. She is also Co-ordinator of the National Group of Representatives of all Pedagogical Universities and Colleges in Poland for the issues of Didactic Process Computerisation (the Group's activities included development of the IT Framework Curriculum for Pedagogical Universities and Colleges).
The following tasks will be assigned to the Pedagogical University of Cracow:
  • Designing a context survey.
  • Conducting the survey.
  • Development, pilot testing and validation.
  • Review of existing tools and curriculum materials
  • Define evaluation criteria and devise pro forma for teacher reports.
  • Trial pilot modules in 1 schools.
  • Trial modules in 3 schools.
  • Evaluation of students' learning outcomes.
  • Training of science teachers in 1 schools using the final courseware.
  • Seminars for teacher trainers.
  • Dissemination activities (papers, conference presentations).
  • Final reports.
  • Group meetings.
  • Internal reports on group activities and financial follow-up.
